"Mismanaged" is my primary quarrel with Bowman. The Iraq adventure is not about "management" of any sort, and so to call into question the "management" of that adventure is, in some ways, to excuse the adventure.

"Mismanagement" assumes that there is a proper "management."

There is nothing to be properly "managed" about an adventure that has nothing to do with Americans on the whole, their "security," or their "wellbeing."

The Iraq adventure is about profiteering in several manners.

- Direct profiteering by defense, security and engineering/construction contractors.

- Indirect profiteering by gaining control of the Iraq oil reserves and oil infrastructure.

- Indirect profiteering by creating a puppet government in Iraq, a government that will do the bidding of those who are profiteers in the previous categories.

There is no way to "manage" such an adventure "properly." The adventure should never have happened in the first place. To say that it can be "properly managed" is to say that it is a proper adventure.

It is not.

It is misadventure. And murder. And theft.

Up to this point only Dr. Bowman and a handful of similar cranks have mentioned even the possibility of a nuclear attack on Iran.

I chose to worry about things that are of a significant probability.

Thanks for posting this very timely letter, Boris. This reinforces what I've come to believe lately: we're at the point where only a military mutiny can prevent the next war. Sad, huh?

Hopefully some Pentagon officers have been planning for this scenario. Hitler's generals conspired to depose him even before WWII, but they acted too late to save their country. Maybe we'll be luckier.
