Why 9/11 Is the Defining Issue of our Time

Saturday, 23 September 2006 4:06 P GMT-05
U.S. government representatives may have been behind the attacks, or may have simply lied about their lack of knowledge, or a bit of both. Either way, Locke's social contract (ie. to provide protection to the citizenry) was violated, and the damage of that is incalculable. You could say that the contract is null and void. The citizens are now entitled to rebellion. The alternative would be to lie down and suffer the consequences, which in this case, I suggest, will be to intellectually/emotionally cripple a whole generation.

Hamas reaffirms denial of Israel

Saturday, 23 September 2006 4:02 P GMT-05
The ruling Hamas party said yesterday that the radical Islamist group would not take part in a Palestinian unity government whose platform recognized Israel. The comments, by Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and other officials, came after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared in a United Nations speech that the proposed coalition with his Fatah movement would recognize Israel.

As Crazy as It Sounds

Saturday, 23 September 2006 3:45 P GMT-05
The irony of it all is that despite the smear talk of Hitlers in the Middle East, the leader whose thinking process most resembles Hitler's is our own president. Like Hitler, Bush's ideological beliefs have blinded him to reality, and like Hitler, he seems impervious to advice that conflicts with his beliefs. There the resemblance ends, of course, but it is bad enough. Hitler learned that he couldn't win a two-front war, and Bush will learn that he can't democratize the Middle East with bombs and bullets.

WTC BOMBSHELL

Saturday, 23 September 2006 3:36 P GMT-05
In 2003, Whitman's then-spokeswoman, Tina Kreisher, was asked by an Environmental Protection Agency internal investigator "whether there was a conscious effort to reassure the public [in the fall of 2001]. "Ms. Kreisher said there was such an effort. This emphasis 'came from the administrator [Whitman] and the White House,' " according to newly released quotes from EPA papers. Hugh Kaufman, an EPA senior policy analyst, told The Post yesterday, that Kreisher "blew the whistle not just on the White House, but on Whitman as well," Kreisher's comment was included in the investigator's notes made during the interview with her. But her quote was not released in the EPA inspector general's final report in 2003, which blamed the White House - not Whitman - for telling the EPA to publicly play up reassuring information and downplay concerns about air around Ground Zero.

Counterpunch Must Denounce Chavez as "Conspiracy Nut"

Saturday, 23 September 2006 2:49 P GMT-05
Looks like Counterpunch is taking the easy way. It's not difficult to churn out uncritical hit-pieces like JoAnn Wypijewski's "Conversations at Ground Zero". Anyone can do it. These love letters to the oligarchy, couched in the familiar terms of "Government Incompetence" hit with all the power of a wet noodle. How does Counterpunch manage to repeat the mantra of "Government Incompetence" over and over, while at the same time embracing the "Government Approved" conspiracy theory of the intrepid 19, and keep a straight face?

Of those, close to 30,000 had possible post-traumatic stress disorder, said the report.

Will The Next Election Be Hacked?

Saturday, 23 September 2006 2:42 P GMT-05
"Every board of election has staff members with the technological ability to fix an election," Ion Sancho, an election supervisor in Leon County, Florida, told me. "Even one corrupt staffer can throw an election. Without paper records, it could happen under my nose and there is no way I'd ever find out about it. With a few key people in the right places, it would be possible to throw a presidential election."

Feds Seek to Block Oregon Spying Case

Saturday, 23 September 2006 2:36 P GMT-05
U.S. Justice Department lawyers filed an appeal Friday aimed at blocking a lawsuit by a former Islamic charity that has challenged a Bush administration secret surveillance program. U.S. District Judge Garr M. King ruled earlier this month that a lawsuit by the defunct Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation chapter in Ashland could go forward without damaging national security.

Backroom Deals in the Corridors of Power. Torturers Now Shielded from Prosecution

Saturday, 23 September 2006 2:31 P GMT-05
After an all-day confab yesterday at the White House, a compromise was worked out that whitewashes what has been done to other human beings in our name and protects government-paid torturers from prosecution. Torquemada - the Spanish "hammer" against heresy - is cackling in the bowels of hell!

Saturday, 23 September 2006 3:59 A GMT-05
The US' prisons are becoming major breeding grounds for Islamic terrorists, but states and local authorities are too cash-strapped to prevent or monitor recruiting, a new report says today.

Hijacking drill was scheduled for 9/11

Saturday, 23 September 2006 1:51 A GMT-05
NORAD had scheduled an aircraft hijacking drill for the morning of 9/11. But don’t worry, it was just a “coincidence” according to the 9/11 Commission. Whew! I thought it might of been evidence of a conspiracy for a moment!

Harvard University Allowing 9/11 Commission Adviser to Teach Absurd Conspiracy Theories

Friday, 22 September 2006 7:17 P GMT-05
As a senior adviser to the 9/11 Commission Harvard Professor of History Ernest May has associated my alma mater with a report that is acknowledged by a growing number of people around the world to be, without exaggerating, a criminally deceptive document, as it intentionally deflects blame from the actual planners and executors of the controlled demolition of the World Trade Center complex.

The Great Cave-In - The Torture "Compromise"

Friday, 22 September 2006 7:04 P GMT-05
The fact that anyone thought for two seconds that we were watching honorable men confront the evil wrought by a president from their own party is a pathetic statement on just how debased politics has become in this country. If there can be actual celebratory jubilation over the brief stand taken by the Gutless Trio, then no one's been paying attention. For if John McCain actually gave a rat's ass about torture, then he would not have voted to confirm Alberto Gonzales or Samuel Alito. If Lindsey Graham gave a happy monkey fuck about the rights of detainees, then he wouldn't have authored an amendment limiting their rights of appeal.

Iran's proud but discreet Jews

Friday, 22 September 2006 7:03 P GMT-05
Although Iran and Israel are bitter enemies, few know that Iran is home to the largest number of Jews anywhere in the Middle East outside Israel. About 25,000 Jews live in Iran and most are determined to remain no matter what the pressures - as proud of their Iranian culture as of their Jewish roots.

Bush insults Americans by still linking Iraq to 9/11 attacks

Friday, 22 September 2006 4:36 P GMT-05
The argument carried some water in the aftermath of 9/11, but the president's continued insistence, in the face of contrary evidence, that Iraq was connected to the 9/11 attacks is difficult to swallow. The president's constant revisionism five years after the fact -- and after the facts are even clearer -- is an insult to Americans.

Does torture really work? Most intelligence experts say no.

Friday, 22 September 2006 4:01 P GMT-05
A website which purports to disprove claims that there was government complicity in 9/11 and that the twin towers and Building 7 were demolished with explosives is riddled with errors, middle school grammar and arguments that both defy common sense and contradict one another.

Insurance Horror Stories

Friday, 22 September 2006 3:23 P GMT-05
Between 2000 and 2005, the number of Americans with private health insurance coverage fell by 1 percent. But over the same period, employment at health insurance companies rose a remarkable 32 percent. What are all those extra employees doing? Now we know at least part of the answer: they’re working harder than ever at identifying people who really need medical care, and ensuring that they don’t get it. In the past, they mainly concentrated on screening out applicants likely to get sick. Now, it seems, they’re also devoting a lot of effort to finding pretexts for revoking insurance after they’ve already granted it.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS ATTEMPT TO LAY GROUNDWORK FOR FIRST STATE RELIGION

Friday, 22 September 2006 3:08 P GMT-05
In direct violation of the Constitution, House Republicans drafted legislative language that would elevate Christian Evangelical Preachers to the status of official government chaplains above all other religions, including non-Evangelical Christians. This obscure little amendment is intended to give Evangelical chaplains the exclusive right to preside over all secular military ceremonies.

Hello Boris and all,

Why do religious leaders and followers so often participate in and support blatant evil?

History is replete with examples of religious leaders and followers advocating, supporting, and participating in blatant evil. Regardless of attempts to shift or deny blame, history clearly records the widespread crimes of Christianity. Whether we're talking about the abominations of the Inquisition, Crusades, the greed and genocide of colonizers, slavery in the Americas, or the Bush administration's recent deeds and results, Christianity has always spawned great evil. The deeds of many Muslims and the state of Israel are also prime examples.

The paradox of adherents who speak of peace and good deeds contrasted with leaders and willing cohorts knowingly using religion for evil keeps the cycle of violence spinning through time. Why does religion seem to represent good while always serving as a constant source of deception, conflict, and the chosen tool of great deceivers? The answer is simple. The combination of faith and religion is a strong delusion purposely designed to affect one's ability to reason clearly. Regardless of the current pope's duplicitous talk about reason, faith and religion are the opposite of truth, wisdom, and justice and completely incompatible with logic.

Religion, like politics and money, creates a spiritual, conceptual, and karmic endless loop. By their very nature, they always create opponents and losers which leads to a never ending cycle of losers striving to become winners again, ad infinitum. This purposeful logic trap always creates myriad sources of conflict and injustice, regardless of often-stated ideals, which are always diluted by ignorance and delusion. The only way to stop the cycle is to convert or kill off all opponents or to end the systems and concepts that drive it.

Think it through, would the Creator of all knowledge and wisdom insist that you remain ignorant by simply believing what you have been told by obviously duplicitous religious founders and leaders? Would a compassionate Creator want you to participate in a system that guarantees injustice and suffering to your fellow souls? Isn’t it far more likely that religion is a tool of greedy men seeking to profit from the ignorance of followers and the strife it constantly foments? When you mix religion with the equally destructive delusions of money and politics, injustice, chaos, and the profits they generate are guaranteed.
