Where's the Terror?

Saturday, 16 September 2006 4:47 P GMT-05
Post-9/11 prosecutions end with a whimper

The Pentagon's 12-Step Program to Create a Misfit Military

Saturday, 16 September 2006 4:37 P GMT-05
Earlier this year, the Army admitted that, to maintain desperately needed numbers, it was forgoing almost any measure of quality when it came to its officer corps. According to 2005 Pentagon figures, 97% of all eligible captains were promoted to major -- a significant jump from the already historically high average of 70-80%. "The problem here is that you're not knocking off the bottom 20%," one high-ranking Army officer at the Pentagon told the Los Angeles Times. "Basically, if you haven't been court-martialed, you're going to be promoted to major."

Intruder killed by nurse was hit man, police say

Saturday, 16 September 2006 4:30 P GMT-05
After a struggle, the 51-year-old nurse fended off her attacker by strangling him with her bare hands. Neighbors praised the woman for her bravery, and investigators said they believed the dead man -- Edward Dalton Haffey -- was burglarizing Kuhnhausen's home. But after an investigation, police now say the intruder Kuhnhausen strangled was apparently a hit man hired by her estranged husband -- Michael James Kuhnhausen Sr. -- to kill her.

THE HIDDEN ANTHRAX LETTERS SUSPECT

Saturday, 16 September 2006 4:27 P GMT-05
The FBI knows of a man who was caught entering the lab where the Anthrax used in the letters was kept, after he had been fired for a racially motivated attack on a co-worker. So, why is the FBI wasting its time with Steven Hatfill?

9/11 an Inside Job

Saturday, 16 September 2006 3:58 P GMT-05
In the wake of revelations of murderous deception in the Iraq War carried out by the Bush Administration, more and more Americans are asking questions regarding the basis for the US “War on Terror”.

Wrong Door

Saturday, 16 September 2006 2:55 P GMT-05
A few cities, such as New Haven, Conn., and San Jose, Calif., restrict the use of SWAT teams to cases where a suspect presents an immediate threat. Denver dramatically cut back the number of "no-knock" raids conducted after a SWAT team shot and killed an innocent man in a botched raid in 1999, and follow-up investigations revealed severe deficiencies in the how police had obtained "no-knock" warrants. But these examples are few and far between. Most of the country is moving toward more militarization, more aggressive drug policing -- and less accountability when things go wrong.

Judge refuses to reinstate key Padilla terrorism charge

Friday, 15 September 2006 9:11 P GMT-05
U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke ruled in August that a charge of conspiracy to "murder, kidnap and maim" people overseas must be dismissed because it duplicated other charges in the same indictment. Cooke said at a hearing Thursday that she stands by that decision.

Judicial Watch Releases Long-Sought 9/11 CITGO Video

Friday, 15 September 2006 8:42 P GMT-05
Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released a videotape from the FBI that was taken from a CITGO gas station near the Pentagon. Many believed the video would show American Airlines Flight 77 striking the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. The videotape, which depicts views from the gas station's six security cameras, shows that the CITGO cameras did not seem to capture the actual attack. The tape was partially obscured by the FBI to protect the privacy of individuals captured on video in the CITGO convenience store.

A National Grassroots Campaign to Illuminate the 2006 Electoral Stage with 9/11 Truth

Friday, 15 September 2006 6:40 P GMT-05
"Politics 9/11" co-sponsors will prepare the briefing kits, publication website, and teaching materials, but we need an enormous amount of grassroots involvement to make this campaign work. You and/or your group can participate at any stage, but we especially need volunteers for the polling effort. See our campaign webpage www.911truthgroups.org for details and suggestions, and contribute your own ideas to the campaign's online planning forum.

Why the 9/11 Conspiracy Theories Really Won't Go Away

Friday, 15 September 2006 5:42 P GMT-05
THAT is why the 9/11 conspiracy theories won’t go away. Because they shouldn’t go away – not until partisanship is swept aside and each and every valid question they raise is addressed honestly, with candor, detail, science, and an interest in finding the truth about what really happened.

Tony Snow On Geneva Conventions: "Didn't Apply" To Previous US Conflicts

Friday, 15 September 2006 5:35 P GMT-05
It seemed reasonable enough -- if one can ignore the fact that the Geneva prohibitions have lasted almost 60 years without others feeling a crying need to clarify or re-define them, perhaps because doing so, critics charge, opens it up for everyone else, including some really bad guys, to come up with their own standards, endangering our captured soldiers.

Guantanamo's Catch-22: defining the rules of the road - The Boston Globe

Friday, 15 September 2006 5:03 P GMT-05
In his defense, Corsetti's lawyer is reported to have said: ``The president of the United States doesn't know what the rules are. The secretary of defense doesn't know what the rules are. But the government expects this Pfc. [private first class] to know what the rules are?" Corsetti cannot escape culpability by this argument. But it does suggest that responsibility stretches higher up the chain of command. Meanwhile, we continue to pay the price because nobody knows what the rules are.

Patriots Question 9/11

Friday, 15 September 2006 4:59 P GMT-05
Subtitled "Senior Military, Intelligence, and Government Critics of 9/11 Commission Report", the website layout is appealing for traditional American sensibilities. It also contains links to hard-to-find source materials, such as former 9/11 Commissioner Max Cleland's statements that "It is a national scandal" and "If this decision stands [to limit access to White House documents], I, as a member of the commission, cannot look any American in the eye, especially family members of victims, and say the commission had full access. This investigation is now compromised." Send your more traditional friends, family members, and colleagues to this new site

Former resident scholar John R. Lott Jr. of the American Enterprise Institute has demonstrated that when jurisdictions enact laws enabling law-abiding citizens to acquire permits to carry concealed firearms, the rates of violent crime take a nose dive in those jurisdictions.

Fear Mongering on the Anniversary of 9/11

Friday, 15 September 2006 4:31 P GMT-05
President Bush and other Republican politicians like to have it both ways. They crow about their anti-terrorism efforts by bragging that the United States has not had another attack since 9/11, while keeping the fear of another attack alive to win elections. In short, the president tells us that we are “safer but not safe." Such fear mongering is exactly what the terrorists want. Terrorists can save resources by conducting major attacks only at rare intervals and relying on irrational fears of people and governments to do the rest.

The Elephant in the Room

Friday, 15 September 2006 4:30 P GMT-05
Now that the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" naked King and Queen of the MSM (NYT & WP) have finally deigned to detect the elephant in the Bush's room so many of us have been howling about for five years, perhaps now you'll feel it's safe to report on the Story of the Millennium and take a peek at and report on the veritable mountain of anomalies, any handful of which, completely shatter the government's conspiracy theory -- not to mention the Baby Elephant crying out for attention, the inexplicable collapse of 52 story Lucky WTC Building Number 7 in a few mere heartbeats longer than a free falling object.

Conspiracy Theories Help the Terrorists

Friday, 15 September 2006 4:26 P GMT-05
Just as a person must be willing to seek help in order to receive it in the context of therapy (it is quite difficult to force someone to change, absent interrogation tactics used at Guantanamo Bay), the government must be willing to release vital information in order to earn the trust of those who refuse to accept their baseless assertions. The alternative theories flourish because they can neither be proven nor denied. There may be a mountain of circumstantial evidence (enough, for example, to convince this therapist of government complicity on 9/11), but as long as key information (documents, videos, witness testimony, etc.) remains classified, there is no definitive proof.

Government oil lease blunder hidden 6 years

Friday, 15 September 2006 4:17 P GMT-05
After combing through 11,000 e-mail messages and interviewing 29 current and former Interior Department employees, federal investigators still aren't ready to say who they think told a staffer to omit contract language that would have forced oil companies operating in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico to pay billions of dollars in royalty payments as energy prices rose.

Fear and Perspective

Friday, 15 September 2006 4:13 P GMT-05
Our leaders and media would have us believe that terrorism is the greatest threat our country has ever seen, considering the amount of attention and coverage that is devoted to discussing terrorism, security and war. In reality, however, the odds of dying in a terrorist attack are slim to none. Actually, the odds are 1 in 88,000. Comparatively, the odds of death by lightning are 1 in 55,928. The odds of dying in a car accident are 1 in 81.

Reporter Palast Slips Clutches of Homeland Security

Friday, 15 September 2006 3:56 P GMT-05
I have sworn to Homeland Security that we no longer send our footage to al-Qaeda — which, in any case, can get a much better view of the refinery and other “critical infrastructure” at Google Maps. Given Exxon’s back-down, I hope to confirm with Homeland Security, Baton Rouge, that charges will be dropped today.

How Bush Rules: How Republicans Are Hyping Fear To Keep One-Party Rule

Friday, 15 September 2006 3:52 P GMT-05
Unlike past Congresses that shared the same party of an incumbent president, the Republican Congress during the Bush period has largely abdicated its constitutional obligation to assert its institutional authority. Whether Bush's power will be limited for his remaining two years in office or whether he will have a clear path for further adventures is a question that will be decided in the mid-term elections.

The 9/11 story

Thursday, 14 September 2006 9:06 P GMT-05
Was the success of the attacks (from a terrorist's tactical perspective) due to complacency by high officials and intelligence bungling or cleverness on the part of al-Qaida? Was the al-Qaida threat as obvious as it seemed to a few high officials at the time while fools and charlatans ignored it? Or was it only one concern among many that understandably didn't rise to the highest priority until 9/11 happened? Were there really enough dots to be connected that the attacks could have been thwarted, or is such talk 20/20 hindsight? In a more sinister vein, did the government consciously let the plot go forward – or do it itself – to unite the populace behind war plans, as a surprising number of Americans are coming to believe?

Thursday, 14 September 2006 5:11 P GMT-05
At hearings last week in New York, Whitman was the most frequent target of lawmakers who charged that ground zero workers were not protected as they worked to clear the pile of toxic debris. Whitman, a former Republican governor of New Jersey, declared in the days after Sept. 11 that the air in lower Manhattan was safe for workers and residents. But she has said she and the EPA always differentiated between the air quality in lower Manhattan and at ground zero.

The Disgraceful Plight Of American Poor

Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:30 P GMT-05
With full-time workers earning less, adjusted for inflation, than at any time since 1973, health care costs going up three times as fast as wages, with insurance companies writing our national policies on health care while health care prices are growing exponentially, it would be wise to pay attention to this growing crisis within our own nation rather than continuing to re-establish a feudal society in the Land of the Free. The people in Washington, DC, who make the decisions for us all, are totally oblivious of the hardships which are borne by the working poor, instead having developed the attitude of Marie Antoinette that, having no bread, the poor should just "eat cake". In the long run, the results may be the same.

The fact that government officials lie is hardly shocking or newsworthy. What is surprising, however, is the complicity of the media in propagating those deceptions without argument. Are there any real peace officers in America?

By Gordon Soderberg
http://www.neworleansvfp.org

When is America's true defenders of the constitution going to call not
just for articles of Impeachment but make arrests for the obvious acts
of treason? I'm not talking about 9-11-01. I'm talking about
everything that has been done in the name of those who died.

The deliberate misrepresentation of intel to take this country and
others to war with Iraq, and this case an endless war on terror.
Amounts to nothing less than treason. Their effects were the killing
hundred thousand people and spending the world's blood and treasure to
create a world wide industry of death.

The executive branch and the Military Industrial Complex has now gone
International. Secret prisons, torture outing of CIA agents, and the
misrepresentaionof intel are all acts of treason. Those who knowing
participated and others who should have refused to follow illegal
orders should be arrested, charged, and if proved to be a involved,
convicted for not only treason but for the war crimes, murder, and
racketeering.

By diverting manpower and funds from protecting the people of the Gulf
Coast. Thereby, allowing the country to be devastated by natural
disaster is a direct dereliction of duty. This too is Murder. And the
billions of dollars to rebuild have been given to the same companies
that are supplying our military and in the case of private security
contracts shows that even the Military is being replaced with a
corporation of war!

When is America going to understand it's leaders have failed them in
the worst possible way. They have been talked into acts of treason and
rooting for more of it. It scares me that the religions are as
complicit in these acts with the government, as is the main stream
media. It is now up to Americans to peacefully revolt against those
that will enslave the world into endless war with endless lies.

Are there any real peace officers in America?

For all of those reasons, we have to put the threat of international terrorism in perspective. Reporting From Ground Zero on the Fifth Anniversary of the Last Good Day

Monday, 11 September 2006 3:22 P GMT-05
Then NYPD officers, politely, to be sure, told all of us who stood there wanting to watch our President, some of whom wanted to mourn with him at least distantly, that we had to move out. The area was going to be secured. In fact, most of the perimeter would be secured and no one would be allowed close enough to the fence to see the President. No, the only way to truly see him would be to watch him on television. Where he wouldn't seem so teeny-tiny, so reduced in scale to the epic destruction that surrounded him. And, indeed, when you watch video of the event, with the Bushes, Mike Bloomberg, George Pataki, and Rudy Giuliani lined up and walking down the ramp, they forcibly look out of scale to the vast construction site around them. However, from anyone who could see from above, see the actual context of the event, they were very, very small.

Local events in New Hampshire to commemorate the fifth aniversary of 9/11

The following is from an e-mail I just received.

Monday, Sept. 11, from 5 to 6 pm: The Seacoast 9-11 Questions Committee, Seacoast Alliance for Democracy and Seacoast Peace Response will have a sidewalk march in Market Square and adjacent areas of downtown Portsmouth displaying signs with major questions we have 9-11. The questions are as follows:

Why were warnings of attack ignored?

Why did World Trade Center Building 7 collapse?

Why withhold video of plane hitting Pentagon?

Why didn't Bush leave the school at once?

Why did Bush try to prevent a 9/11 investigation?

Why wasn't Ground Zero treated like any other crime scene?

Was the 4th plane in PA shot down?

Who has benefited from 9/11?

Why was no one fired after 9/11?

Why didn't USAF fighters intercept any planes on 9/11?
