Why I Don't Live In Israel

Saturday, 19 August 2006 7:49 P GMT-05
Some people justify Israel's actions by arguing that Jews need a place to go to when anti-Semitism breaks out somewhere in the world. But as Yeshayahu Leibowitz, the philosopher and outspoken public figure, once said: the most dangerous place for Jews in the world is the state of Israel.

Yitzhak Laor : You are terrorists, we are virtuous

Friday, 18 August 2006 4:03 P GMT-05
There is no institution in Israel that can approach the army’s ability to disseminate images and news or to shape a national political class and an academic elite or to produce memory, history, value, wealth, desire. This is the way identification becomes entrenched: not through dictatorship or draconian legislation, but by virtue of the fact that the country’s most powerful institution gets its hands on every citizen at the age of 18. The majority of Israelis identify with the army and the army reciprocates by consolidating our identity, especially when it is – or we are – waging war.

So, when Ehren refused to participate in that war, what he did is noble and humane, just and proper. By refusing to participate in Bush’s evil war, he demonstrated that humanity is more important than mere uniform or the codes that it provides.

DEA Snake-Oil

Friday, 18 August 2006 2:33 P GMT-05
The irony of all this is that to the extent that there are terrorists financing the operations through drug sales, it’s a direct result of the exorbitant profits that the drug war produces, which would disintegrate with legalization. Thus, what the DEA officials fail to realize (or not) is that it is their own war that provides the monies to finance the terrorists. It’s just another perverse result of another perverse federal program.

BY THE LIGHT OF A BURNING BRIDGE

Thursday, 17 August 2006 11:05 P GMT-05
My permanent exodus from the US was actually ordained thirty years –- to the month –- before I left for good on July 18th, 2006. It was thirty years ago that my then-fiancĂ©e, a career contract agent for the CIA, disclosed to me that “her people” were interested in giving a major boost to my career with LAPD if I would become involved with her “anti-terror” operations that involved “overlooking” (i.e. protecting) large drug shipments coming in while facilitating the movement of large quantities of firearms going out. I refused to compromise my ethics as a police officer and –- as I wrote on page 6 of Crossing the Rubicon – “that has determined the course of my life ever since.”

What to Expect from a Populist-9/11 Attorney General

Bush's Political Survival Depends on Terror Threats

Tuesday, 15 August 2006 1:08 P GMT-05
More to the point, it is equally true that Bush desperately needs the terrorists. They are his last frail hope for political survival. They divert public attention, at least momentarily, from his disastrous war in Iraq and his shameful abuses of the Constitution. The "news" of terror -- whether real or fantasized -- reduces American politics to its most primitive impulses, the realm of fear-and-smear where George Bush is at his best.

Intersecting Facts and Theories on 9/11

Monday, 14 August 2006 3:44 A GMT-05
The historical association between Bush officials, government and private intelligence networks and clandestine operations argues against the notion that incompetence allowed 9/11 to occur, and therefore this fact must raise suspicion.

Did he mislead readers last December by stating that he had held the article for "a year" to place that after the election? Later he said, vaguely, "more than year."

Terrorism charges collapse like house of cards

Originally published by The Real Fair & Balanced News. Reprinted here due to the fact that The Real Fair & Balanced News does not seem to be using permanent links.

I had to take the opportunity today to email that other website that calls itself "fair and balanced". You know the one. Today, they have a story with the headline "FBI: No Indication of Terror Ties for Men in Cell-Phone Arrest". On the same page, just to the right of the article is a link titled "3 Men Arraigned in Michigan on Terror Charges" that links to a story dated Saturday. Morons. You can't have it both ways, FOX.

In a separate case, Ohio prosecutors admitted they do not have enough evidence to charge two men who were in possession of of 12 cell phones with any terrorism related charges. No shit. In both cases, the alleged terrorist's story is that they purchased the phones in bulk with the intent of resale at a profit. You know, free enterprise. Capitalism. The American way. Doesn't get any more patriotic than that. William Kowalski, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's Detroit field office, said there is nothing unlawful about buying cell phones in quantity, but that profits from that kind of activity can be suspicious. Who knows what they may have done with the profit? Pay some bills? If I had known there was money to be made by doing what they did, I would have been all over it. I don't think I'm the only one that could use a little extra money these day, what with the price of gas and the general condition of the economy that the government has run into the ground.

According to the Caro, Michigan Chief of Police, the brand of cell phones in the men's possession (TracFones) are untraceable and that any cell phone can be used as detonators for explosives. I expect now that anyone who buys a TracFone is a terrorist suspect. Initially the authorities thought that Michigan's Mackinac Bridge was the intended target because the men had pictures of the bridge on a digital camera in their possesion. If that's the case, I guess I'm guilty of planning to blow up the Washington coast and some deer that were in my yard yesterday.

If you believe that there are terrorists plotting at this moment to do real harm to America, remember that the FBI is wasting their time investigating two men from Ohio and three from Michigan who were probably just looking to make a buck instead of tracking down real enemies.

I also liked Michael Rivero's comment to this article:

I guess that means I am planning to blow up...

1. The USS Arizona

2. The neighbor's dog

3. My wife

4. The dent in my Honda

5. A pineapple

6. The moon

Because those are all pictures I have had in my digital camera.
